Local SEO for London-based studios

Getting found by clients who search "web design studio London" without buying ads.

Local SEO is the discipline of ranking for "near me" and city-specific searches. For a London-based studio, this is one of the fastest ways to get genuinely qualified traffic.

Set up Google Business Profile

Free, mandatory, takes 20 minutes. Add your studio name, category (Web Design Agency, Marketing Consultant, etc.), address (or service area if you don't have a public office), phone number, website, hours.

This is what gets you into the Google Maps local pack — the three-result map box that often shows above traditional search results for local queries.

Get the NAP consistent everywhere

NAP = Name, Address, Phone. The same Studio Blanco, the same London address, the same phone number on your website, your Google Business Profile, your LinkedIn, your Crunchbase, every directory listing.

Inconsistent NAP confuses Google about whether you are one business or several. Tedious to fix, easy to keep right from the start.

List on local and industry directories

Clutch, DesignRush, Sortlist, The Manifest, GoodFirms, Best Web Design Agencies, Codrops showcase, Awwwards (still useful for the backlink), Site Inspire, Behance, Dribbble.

Each one is one inbound link to your site from a domain Google trusts. The cumulative effect is real.

Use location naturally in copy

Mention London in your About page, footer, contact page, and where it makes sense in case studies. Don't stuff it. Google penalises obvious manipulation.

Build local backlinks

Local press, London-based design publications, sponsorships of local creative events. Each one is a high-trust signal that your studio is genuinely part of the London creative scene.

Get client testimonials geo-tagged

If a London client writes a testimonial that says "we worked with Studio Blanco on our London headquarters" — that geographic reinforcement helps your local relevance.

Service-area pages

If you serve multiple parts of London (Shoreditch, Soho, Canary Wharf) or wider UK, individual landing pages targeting each area can help. Treat each as substantive — a few hundred words about working with clients there, what's specific to that market, real photos if you have them.

Thin location pages get penalised. Real ones rank.

What to ignore

Buying citations in bulk. Spammy. Google catches it.

Geo-tagged image EXIF data. Microscopic effect, not worth the bother.

Fake reviews. Catastrophic if caught, and they catch it.

Timeline

Local SEO results show up faster than general SEO. Most studios see meaningful local pack rankings within 3-6 months of consistent work. The compounding effect over years is significant.
