Webflow vs Framer vs Squarespace

A practical comparison of the three, with which one to pick for which kind of project.

Three platforms, three different stages of "I need a website that just works".

Squarespace

The default for someone who needs a site this week and has no design or development experience. Templates are competent, hosting is included, the editor is forgiving. You will not build anything visually distinctive in it, but you will have a presentable website by Friday.

Pick Squarespace when: you are a service provider, you don't care about being visually unique, you want one bill from one company that handles everything.

Skip Squarespace when: you care about brand. The output looks like every other Squarespace site.

Webflow

The platform for people who care about design and have time to learn. Closer to building a site in code than Squarespace, but without writing code. Real CMS, real e-commerce, real custom interactions. Studios use Webflow to build client sites that the client can then update.

Pick Webflow when: you have a designer in the room. You need a CMS. The site is going to grow.

Skip Webflow when: you need fast turnarounds, no time to learn, no design opinion.

Framer

The newest of the three and the most designer-friendly. Treats the page like a design file. Best motion handling. Real components. Faster to iterate than Webflow.

Pick Framer when: design quality matters most. The team is design-led. You want a marketing site that ships in days.

Skip Framer when: you need complex content modelling or a real e-commerce catalogue.

The honest take

If you have to ask, pick Squarespace and move on with your business. If you have a designer, pick Framer for marketing or Webflow for content-heavy. If your budget allows it and your site is critical to your business, hire a studio and let them choose the tool.
